Scarfs, scarfs and more scarfs

I learned how to make a chain stitch years ago and never did anything with it, that is no more than create a "pot holder" out of yarn. I can't even tell you if I did it with a crochet hook or with knitting needles. Anyway I was talking to someone on the train a few years ago and she mentioned that she and a group of friends would crochet scarfs for the shelters during the winter, I thought it was a cool idea and promised myself that I would learn to make scarfs to donate as well. My mother and my aunt both were excellet with knitting and crocheting. They are both now deceased, but the skill must have been genetically transferred to my oldest niece who has a real skill for it as well. I made my first scarf from yarn that I had been practicing on and had finally decided that I just was going to crochet until it ran out. I came up with a design that I say was an accident, but everyone else seems to love. No one wants to believe that I had no idea what I was doing when I made it. I have since joined a life group that gets together to knit and crochet. We share tips and ideas, but most of all it's just fun to do life with someone who holds the same interest as you. I am making basic scarfs using the double crochet stitch, I am not sure if I am going to add any tassels on any of them. I hope to donate all of the scarfs before the winter is up, but if not I will store them for the upcoming fall and winter seasons 2010.

  1. This sounds like a really unique talent you have in crocheting. Although you used the term 'funny looking scarfs', I bet it's absolutely adorable. Do you have any pictures of these scarfs? Perhaps this can be a future business?
