BLOGSLACKING!!! what the...

I am not leaving the blog world, I just won't be working on any new projects for a while. If I can make good enough progress with the Advanced Project, you'll hear from me sooner than later. I am going to do a baby blanket, I'll definitely post it if it comes out well enough. I am picturing something simple done in a pastel purple (seeing that I don't know what I'm dealing with), and hopefully I can soften it up with some ribbon as well. If you all have any other suggestions for gender neutral colors feel free to post them.

All Good Things...

must come to an end. Don't worry it is not the end of my yarning career, it's just the end of it for a season or a quarter which ever you prefer. I have to work on getting my Advanced Project completed or else I'll be in college forever. So I am going to have to shut everything else down and concentrate solely on getting on with my education (there's still grad school, you know). I will still be blogging about knitting and crocheting until the end of this term, but I don't think that there will be must to post until I am done with school.

READ 'EM AND WEEP!

Yes! Thank you, thank you. I am now the proud owner of my first book on crocheting. I am so happy. I sat up most of the night actually reading it and reviewing the projects over and over and over. One day when I grow up, I am going to actually try some of the projects. Yes you will be weeping once I reach stardom and you can say that you knew me when (hee hee). It's a real easy book, it looks as if most of the projects are for the beginner and the advanced beginners. I am not sure what I am at this point. I purchased this book at Joanne fabrics, which has a wide variety of books on any and every hobby imaginable. There were quite a few books that I was interested in and all were reasonably priced, so it was a very hard to decide which one I wanted the most. I opted for this one because the projects were for crocheting and I have most of the supplies for that already, the projects are also really fun and funky and in tune with the times. I also like the fact that it introduced you to more clubs and how to start your own as well. It has already given me another idea for charity using the leftover yarns from you projects. How cool is that ? One of the other books dealt strictly with knitting, but the projects were easy, colorful and fun. I decided that I would purchase that one next. The final book dealt strictly with crocheting luxurious items and required more advanced skills and a pricier and better quality of yarns such as angora, alpaca and the likes. The projects were fabulous! That will be my third purchase, because eventually I will get there and I want to have that book in my repertoire, the projects are TIMELESS. I still need to add a few more needles to my stock and they also recommend doing test swatches before starting your projects, to insure that you are doing the stitch and gauge correctly. I am purchasing them one at a time, so I can govern my spending habits better and with the Joanne's 40% coupon the books turn out to be very inexpensive and I get to treat myself to a little somethin' every week. This purchase was originally 17.95 but with the coupon it only cost me 11.52 after tax. Seven dollars and some change off isn't a bad deal. I can't wait until next week!!!

P.S. I will post the cover of each new book that I purchase, in case anyone wants to join in on the fun.

Inquiring Minds

Can we get some photos of your actual work? I would love to see the technique you use!

I would love to upload some pictures (can you help me out?), until then you will have to check me out in class.

Do you marketing your pieces? Or do them just for fun? Is this a business for you?

Like everything that I do, some work is for charity and other are FOR SALE. It's not a business as of yet, but it is in the works.

Community

I am finding out that most of the yarn companies have communities on their websites that coordinate projects for shelters and other charitable events. I haven't had the chance, but I will post them as links on my blog. I have crocheted approximately 8 to 10 scarfs thus far. I am running out of yarn so I'll be picking up some more. This time I'll be making them for women, so the colors will be a whole lot brighter.

To Sirs With Love

Here's the deal, I have been crocheting away making scarfs to donate to a mens shelter. Things were going well until I decided that the scarfs were too plain. I had this bright idea to change the pattern of the scarfs, well that was a big mistake because I have crocheted and taken one scarf down at least 3 times. I finally finished it this morning...thank God! The pattern was nice, but it was taking forever to complete one scarf, so in the essence of time I decided to go back to the original pattern that allows me to crank the scarfs out in no time at all and now I can finish them while it is still winter. I have been using autumn and winter colored yarns and they can be a little and they have the tendency to fall a little flat and I didn't want that. I also make greeting cards and I've noticed that although the colors are very rich, you still have to enhance them a little to make them pop. Men don't really care about that kind of thing anyway. The main point to this project is to help keep them warm during the winter months. I am trying to locate a crochet pattern for creating hats as well, so if any of you know of one, feel free to share.

My Friend Carolyn

My friend Carolyn says that I should post about how I have promised to make her one of my funny looking scarfs, but that she has yet to receive it. She has been threatening since I walked into the door. I asked her "Carolyn what about love" and she responded "What's love got to do with it".

Scarfs, scarfs and more scarfs

I learned how to make a chain stitch years ago and never did anything with it, that is no more than create a "pot holder" out of yarn. I can't even tell you if I did it with a crochet hook or with knitting needles. Anyway I was talking to someone on the train a few years ago and she mentioned that she and a group of friends would crochet scarfs for the shelters during the winter, I thought it was a cool idea and promised myself that I would learn to make scarfs to donate as well. My mother and my aunt both were excellet with knitting and crocheting. They are both now deceased, but the skill must have been genetically transferred to my oldest niece who has a real skill for it as well. I made my first scarf from yarn that I had been practicing on and had finally decided that I just was going to crochet until it ran out. I came up with a design that I say was an accident, but everyone else seems to love. No one wants to believe that I had no idea what I was doing when I made it. I have since joined a life group that gets together to knit and crochet. We share tips and ideas, but most of all it's just fun to do life with someone who holds the same interest as you. I am making basic scarfs using the double crochet stitch, I am not sure if I am going to add any tassels on any of them. I hope to donate all of the scarfs before the winter is up, but if not I will store them for the upcoming fall and winter seasons 2010.
